Ligue 1 stoppage in 2020, no compensation for the Olympique Lyonnais – Jurisportiva, 08/19/2021

 

The Covid-19 epidemic that we went through from March 2020 onwards, and which unfortunately is still ongoing, has not only had calamitous health consequences for the country, but also catastrophic collateral effects on the world of sport, both professional and amateur, and especially on the national football championships of League 1 and League 2, which have all been halted, even though all of the remaining championship matches had not been played.

After the stoppage of Ligue 1, it was still to be determined how the final ranking would be established. The Ligue professionnelle de football (LFP) opted for a performance index, calculated on the basis of a quotient derived from the ratio between the number of points scored and the number of matches played. However, these two decisions did not suit all clubs, especially those fighting against relegation to Ligue 2 but also those seeking a place in European competitions (Champions League and Europa League), including Olympique Lyonnais.
