The profession of a competition lawyer is complete. Because while we can very well act both as advisor and litigation counsel, what we learn from experience is that we must practice both: our clients are in fact faced with administrative authorities and this requires us to be combative even in non-litigious matters. What motivates us at JeantetAssocies is that the expectations of our clients, in competition law matters, are very high and we understand this. Competition is something they live with on a daily basis from a commercial and operational standpoint, but as soon as legal issues are involved, it is a subject which gives rise to questions and concerns. Our fundamental role is to support our clients, to advise them but also to show them that competition law is not only a limitation, but can also be a weapon which they can use for their benefit. What I find fascinating in this profession is that one has to know one’s client and their activity, communicate with the client, be able to understand their hopes, their needs and to indentify their limitations. Competition law is at the same time the most economic of legal subjects, and the most legal of economic subjects, but more fundamentally, practicing within a firm like JeantetAssociés, which emphasises personal relations and trust with clients requires proximity with the individuals comprising and leading the businesses which request our assistance.
